Nighttime flings my fears into my consciousness
like cards flying from a deck.
What if this happened?
How is that going to work out?
Do my friends really care about me?
Then the next morning,
out comes the sun,
and the scary night disappears,
taking my fears away in its backpack.
Direct sunlight always reassures me.
I can see my way more clearly.
And when I see clearly,
I fear less,
and I make better decisions.
Lord,
your love is like the direct sunlight in my life.
Whenever I feel your presence and your direct love,
I know all will be well in my life.
But half the time, there is no sunlight.
Sometimes I see only clouds.
But on many nights I can also see my way by the light of the moon.
That’s when I am reminded that
your love isn’t always felt directly, like sunlight.
I can also feel your love reflected from others back to me,
like the moonlight,
which is actually sunlight reflected off the moon.
Now I can manage all my cloudy moments and moonless moods,
because these are followed soon by your sunlight or moonlight.
Thank you for all the people around me who reflect your love.
