The Holy Spirit is the wild side of God,
the part of God who can seem totally out of control.
God the Father is our parent/creator.
And we all know that creative types are arty and visionary,
maybe even a bit moody.
Jesus, the Redeemer, is the mindblowing revealer of God’s unconditional love.
And we all know what that cost him.
So, what’s with this Holy Spirit?
This wild side of God keeps showing up
unscheduled and uninvited,
if we are to believe the Pentecost story.
Bold and brassy,
the Holy Spirit simply roared into the lives of the terrified disciples,
and blew them out onto the street,
where they told the incredible story of Jesus
in words everyday people could understand.
This unpredictable and inspirational presence of God
becomes a gift-bearer to us in so many ways.
Christians throughout history
have been able to document seven of these gifts
left as surprises for anyone:
Wisdom and Understanding.
Who can’t use some of those gifts?
Judgement and Courage.
We’ll take all we can get of those!
Knowledge and Reverence.
Those would be life-changing qualities in our lives.
And finally, Wonder and Awe.
That’ll really put the boom back into our relationship with God.
Find these gifts,
and you’ll find the giver.
Use these gifts,
and you’ll find out what God can really do with your life.
Share these gifts,
and the world around you will change.
