It Takes Two

Relationships can be wonderful.
They can also be very strange.

We start out as kids playing with our friends,
and we learn that we have to make certain adjustments
if we want to get along with others.

We also learn that most of these early relationships don't always last.
How many of these early relationships have you kept and developed?

During adolescence, the social friendships become far more complex,
as peer pressure collides with parental pressure.
And having fun can distort the search for genuine happiness.
How many of those teenage buddies have you kept as friends?

But real friends stay with you.
     Hopefully you trust them.
And you may even marry one.

Falling in love is easy.
Staying in love is the challenge.

The same with friendships.
Getting friends is easier than keeping them.

That's because falling into friendships can be a wonderful accident.
Keeping that friendship takes good choices by each one involved.

It takes two to keep the relationship together.
It takes only one to break it up.
It can't be a healthy friendship or romance.
If one of you doesn't want to be there.

Lord, I know you want to be with me as a friend.
I am the one who drops in and out.

It takes the two of us to make this work.

And I'm just checking back in.

Did you miss me?
